Any recommendations? I got a 406 a few months ago and want to get a couple of things checked out (oil leak and whining gearbox - possibly related), and would like to go to someone who has some experience with them.

I'm kinda half tempted to go to Lee Auto on the Model Farm Road since they're close to work but I haven't a clue what they're like - anyone had experience with them?

Bump - Sunday afternoon doesn't seem to be a good time for starting threads :)

Neither issue sounds particularly specialised so any half decent mechanic should be able to assess what's wrong. Whining gearbox sounds terminal though.

I haven't been in Cork long so not even sure who's half decent around here yet :)
The gearbox is not really noisy, after driving a crappy Fiesta for 4 years I thought some whining in 1st and 2nd was normal enough, but I notice it in 3rd and 4th as well. Apparently the driveshaft seals can leak in these, which could explain why the oil leak was at the wrong side of the engine for the gearbox...

I always recommend Con Forde across from Greenmount Primary school (stones throw from Lennox' on Bandon Rd) :)
