    Hi Guys

    I am looking at get a couple of teeth removed and dentures instead. Anyone know how long it takes for gums to heal (and is it pain full) before u can use dentures ???

    Any advice will be welcome

    If the extractions only involve front teeth then for cosmetic reasons you do not wait for any healing and you get an immediate denture on the .day.

    If, however back teeth and front teeth are to be extracted then only the back teeth are extracted first. Then impressions for dentures can be taken 6 to 8 weeks later after some healing has occurred. Again for cosmetic reasons the front teeth are extracted last and you get an immediate denture on the day.

    Ultimately this immediate denture will have to be either relined or else a complete new denture made depending on each patients case.

    Not really, local anaesthetic will sort you out during the procedure and post-operative pain is easily controlled with the correct pain meds....
