Giggs has 33, Vitor Baia has 31. Think those two are the two most decorated players in Europe.

The thing that is so incredible about him is that he somehow managed to improve this season and evolve so brilliantly into a new position, all at 37 years of age:eek:

Only he could go from one of the best wingers in the game to one of the best CM in Europe at the moment.

    Astonishing.

Messi's is pretty impressive at 23(24 in a month). Might have a chance to catch Giggs' league titles.

    La Liga: 5

    UEFA Champions League: 2
    2005-06, 2008-09
    UEFA Super Cup: 1

Probably an exaggeration altrght but going by his performances in the CL knock out stages he has to be in contention for the UEFA CL Team of the Season. He has been stunning really in those games and a real difference maker.

Good point. The likes of Xavi, or Puyol mst be up there when you add in their international success too.

If United win in 2 weeks then yes, he will get in to the team of the season. If Barca win then we both know who will get the CM positions in that team. I never buy into those team of the season awards anyway.

Me neither, but the point does stand that he has been saved for CL football in the past few months and has turned in some real top class performances. We certaily wouldn't be in the final without his contribution.

Surpisingly enough Puyol has the same number of club titles at 33, obviously the Euro and World cups improve it but I would have expected Puyol to have more. Xavi just has one more league title.

What about Casillas? He's won every major trophy available to him afaik. Not quite the quantity of Giggs but I'd rather the variety

EDIT: Puyol and Xavi too of course...

On form, there's not many better than he has been over the last couple of months. A star performer in the two games v Chelsea in the CL QF, in the first leg v Schalke, v Man City a couple of months ago, v Chelsea in the PL.

As I said, at the moment he's one of the best performers, not if you take the season as a whole.

Someone, if they were that way inclined could make a similar case for Lucas so.

Giggs must be close to the most decorated player ever. He deserves it too. I feel he has been a model professional, and a fantastic role model for young footballers. However, that is in the club game.

He has a wretched record at International Level, with the pinnacle of his career being a Euro 2004 Play-Off Match against Russia. I always feel it was a shame that he never took his outstanding club-performances onto the International Stage, especially during his early years, when Wales had the playes to take them to the next level.

People say this about Messi as well don't they? Bit of a silly line of argument. No matter how well Giggs played for Wales I don't think they had much chance of adding to his medal haul tbh.

The point is, as is plain to see, that its easy to play well in a nothing game against nobody with nothing at risk.

He was excellent against United at Anfield, MOTM against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, MOTM against City at Anfield.

    Alfredo di Stefano:

2 Argentinian Titles with River Plate

    3 Colombian Titles with Millionaris

8 Spanish Titles and 5 European Cups with Real Madrid.

I have no idea how competitive the European Cup was back then however.

Comparing, arguing over better season, more impact in big games, whatever it is, it's clear who is better.

Ryan Giggs has been a class act since he first appeared for United way back in 1991. I agree that he has been brilliant in a lot of important games for them this year. For me he is up there along with Keane, Shearer, Henry and Schmeichel as the very best to have ever played in the Premier League sinces its inception. The fact that he has had such longevity and such consistency during that time for me puts him in the legendary category with players like Billy Meredith, Dixie Dean, Jimmy Greaves, Peter Shilton and well Roy Race of the Rovers:D

I would add Sir Bobby Charlton to that list, who remains to this day Utds all time top goal scorer.

except that this year it looks like the clubs who qualify for the europa league won't be going bankrupt, so Liverpool might not be there at all if they have to qualify themselves.
