Anyone actually visited Baltimore?

I'll be in New Jersey this summer and was wondering is it worthwhile paying a trip down? It would seem a shame not to bother while I was there.

TBH I don't think it's really worth bothering. Parts of it are ok but no different to any other eastern US city - there is nothing unique about it that makes it worth a special trip. And those parts wouldn't be familiar to a Wire viewer anyway. The parts of it that are like what you see in The Wire, you really don't want to go anywhere near.

Which is not to say you're better off staying in New Jersey, necessarily, but New York would be a much more interesting excursion.

I was there 2 months ago. Nice little town to be fair. Drove through some of the projects and it was pretty grim. Were over by the harbour area then as well and that was very nice.

Baltimore seemed like a pretty cool city that had its own character. I mainly spent my time around the harbor and around the docks. Recognised many Wire locations, which was great. Ate lunch at Werner's Diner (where Carcetti went a number of times) and had a few pints in the Sidebar Tavern opposite City Hall, which was the cops' bar where they had wakes. They have a Carcetti election sign behind the bar and the bar staff are cool. At nights it's usually a punk bar but you can sink pints during the day for cheap.

If you're in the States and close to it Baltimore is well worth the visit.
