They took enough off the people of this country already, thanks very much all the same.

I'll think I'll go to mass just for this reason - to give a sh1t in a cheese packet. Havent been to mass in years. Giving monopoly play money would be good too.

People are going to mass again praying for a miracle and this greedy shower that got us into the mess are standing there with they're hands out begging for money after openly dipping they're hands into every wage packet in the country not to mention cutting social welfare for people already on the bread line, i say dip your hand into their collection box and take back a few coins (should anyone be foolish enough to put something in it in the first place!)

How do these goons get away with standing outside places of worship and shaking buckets as if they were a charitable cause? Isnt this just begging...which is now effectively illegal?

Not if the streets of Dublin are any indication.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,802 ✭✭✭✭suicide_circus

But seriously? How are a political party allowed solicit donations on the streets? Donations impossible to keep an eye on, trace, vouch for etc....am I allowed to set up my own political party and go out and solicit donations and then use theres donations for party purposes (coke and hookers) without the taxman looking for receipts etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,879 ✭✭✭Coriolanus

I think any donations under 100, or 500 or something like that anyway, don't have to be declared or receipted/recorded.

I absolutely do not believe this as I cannot see anyone having enough b*lls to do it. Pity though as I do have lots of crap to get rid of.

No, permission is sought from either the Gardai or the local council (forget which), similar to a community raffle/fund raising event where tickets are sold, which also needs Garda permission to be run.

They will be in possession of a document outlining when and where they're allowed to collect.

The real reason that people don't go to church is to avoid tripping over political beggars, sports club beggars, coursing club beggars and any other bunch of non-charitable beggars. They can all fuck off.

Politicians should stay away from churches at any time except if they happen to worship there. No promotion of political causes should take place within churches or within a 50m radius of the church gates in my opinion of it. I go to church to worship, and to have fellowship with other believers, I don't go to church to be canvassed. Separation of church and state should logically also mean separation of state / politics from church.

The Church and Fianna Fail, one trying to grab your money outside and one wanting to grab your money inside.
...Says its fcukin all about both!

:D:D:D Thats a good one, you should write that one down. For 100s of years the church was political rule. Making up rules and telling the people what they could and could not do and think. Dictating that the Earth was the centre of the Universe at one stage and anyone that said otherwise vanished or bowed down to name of God and reconsidered.:D

I heard one time a Priest actually asked for a silent collection

I'm a non-Catholic and I go to a minority church in the State. I'm interested in pluralism, freedom of / from religion and freedom of expression. I don't expect the State to promote my beliefs, I can do that myself.

Difference is, even if you detest the institution, the church does carry out charitable work. The fianna fail party does not.

Any money that gets diverted away from the church is a good thing. Even if it was going directly to a baby killing fund it would be better spent.
