Reapplying late through CAO

Basically the story is i'm in my 2nd of 4 years in a denominated science subject in NUIG. I hate my course and really want to change to a law course, however I missed the original CAO deadlines. There is an extension for current undergrads to apply via the CAO until 22nd July however NUIG only offers this service (for some reason??) to first years. Does anyone know why this is and/or if there is anyway around this. I've already emailed the admissions office and am waiting to hear back but wondered was there any feedback available here.
    Thanks

CAO seem happy to waive most deadlines so long as you line their pockets.

But I don't know if you'd have to go through CAO? Contact the Admissions dpt in the college.

I'm not exactly well connected so don't think i'd be able to sort it out with the CAO. As far as I know it's the colleges decision whether to allow students the extended CAO deadline and from talking to the admissions board they don't seem willing for 2nd years. Guess i'm stuck :(

Talked to the admissions office and there is no chance of transferring internally. Anyone have any ideas on who to contact regarding the CAO, i've emailed them but they keep quoting the same rules about the late dealine and nothing else. Well and truely desperate now!!

Well I wouldn't take what the people in admissions say as gospel; they told me there was no way I could transfer courses in 1st year from engineering to science, in the October of my 1st year. In the end all I had to do was talk to the right people, and I managed fine.

However, changing from science to law after a couple of years is another story and you probably will have to go through the CAO. Maybe there's a number you could call at the CAO office, you might have more luck getting the information you need as opposed to sending emails.

Keep in mind you've already done 2 years of a science degree, are you sure it's worth starting all over? I'm also in a denominated science course and I have found (as well as many others I've spoken to) that courses pick up in 3rd year and become a lot more interesting. You sound like you've your mind made up already, but it might be something worth keeping in mind if it turns out you can't start law this september.

Just to let people know how this turned out.

After contacting nearly everyone I could in the college I was told that the law department would have no trouble accepting me if it were not for the colleges rule that only first years can avail of the late CAO date.

I was also informed, after some flaws were pointed out, that this rule will be removed from next year so all undergrads can avail of the late CAO date.

So basically despite my leaving results being high enough and the course willing to accept me I am bound to wait a year with nothing to do because of a stupid rule that is going to be removed next year anyway. I'm truely depressed at the moment :(

You might as well finish the Science degree for the year then.
It's an extra year you'll have to pay for, granted, but it'd be no harm to have it on a CV. Shows you're "diverse".

True. I am considering that alright but the thoughts of doing 2 more years (4 year course) of a course I don't like-paying the registration fees and accomodation-and then having to go back through it all again. I'm fairly lost at the moment

What's the degree? Usually if you drop out of a denominated science degree after three years you get a pass degree. No?

It's Financial Maths and Economics. Maybe your right, i've never heard of that but maybe that's because I never looked into it. It's a strange degree though as it's part science and part arts, I only said it was science as we get a B.S at the end. I'll be sure to look into that.

That was the degree I did. I'm fairly sure it was an option, though nobody took it, afaicr.

edit: just confirmed it there with another classmate. We did have the option and one of the girls took it and did a hdip.
