Wedding ceremony candles

    Are you suppose to have candles at your wedding??? Is there a part where you light them or something? Have a vague memory from some weddings

    at the start two candles are lit, you then light one candle from these,the marriage candle.

    im getting married in 7 weeks and was abit annoyed when i heard you had to have the candles i hadnt budgeted for them but when i read up on them the two single candles symbolise the two single people and the one large candle is both people joining into a union of marrige im glad i got them now il keep them for when our kids are christened as a christening candle :):):)

    i got mine in a shop called the wedding collection in carlow .. they have an online shop @theweddingcollection.ie . igot my name put on one candle and larrys name on the other and both our names on the big candle the church time date and venue on it also with crystals on the candle aswell .. it cost 65 euro for the set their worth every penny their lovely:D

    You can just buy plain ones too if you want something less expensive.

    The toy barn does nice candles for about a tenner eith pics etc.

    €65 seems incredible excessive to me.

    they wer a bit expensive but i liked the finished candle its a bit excessive yes i know.. i have them now and i love them .. everyone has different tastes each to their own im happy with what i got.

    As far as I know, the candle bit is optional. You don't have to have it.

    You each light a candle at the beginning of the Mass to symbolise your individual selves. Then after the vows you light a single candle together, to symbolise that you have come together in marriage.

    If you want it, one big pillar candle and two slimmer single candles, from Tesco or Dunnes or the pound shop is perfectly adequate. You don't have to spend a fortune.

    We got personalised unity candles from In the Pink on Ebay. Delivered to the door, with a silver stand for about €40.

    We had budgeted for them, which is why we went for the more expensive personalised ones. If we hadn't budgeted or the money wasn't there, we would have spent a tenner in Tesco and it would have been fine.
