Are we blind?

Are we blind to a greater reality than our own. Michio Kaku and many scientist people are now saying that we live in but one parallel universe in an eternal bunch of universes. According to Kaku these universes could be in our very living rooms.

If we cannot see these places, does that make us in theory blind? Could my bedroom be at the bottom of an ocean in another parallel universe? Could there be whales and fish above my head and sharks around me? Could I be in the midst of a revolution in which I cannot be shot as it not my reality? Could I be facing head on, Wittgenstein perhaps where he sits contemplating our world, or his world in another parallel universe?

We define blindness as inability to see visible objects in our world. But are we collectively as a species and a universe blinder to a much greater reality than that which we find ourselves confined to?

One must first be IN the philosophy forum to find the philosophy forum

A parallel universe or an alternate universe? If a parallel does exist, maybe we cannot 'see' it because we do not exist in that parallel universe or plane. That theory takes us outside the realm of perceptual reality. I kind of like the idea.

Ok, I'm going to go out on a limb and take this seriously. The answer is no. Think about the definition of blindness you used. "Visible" is something you can see, so by definition, if you have an "inability to see" an object, it clearly isn't a visible object. Therefore I can only assume that by "visible", you mean something which is seen by the majority of people. In which case, other universes aren't visible. So we aren't blind to them.

I get what you mean though, for example, the visible spectrum itself. We only see a VERY small subset of the wavelengths of light. That's almost a whole world of colour which to us isn't colour at all.

Ask the same question when I'm plastered later and I'll have a fairly coherent and reasonable answer for you

But if he posts in a fringe forum the masses won't know the deep thoughts that keep him awake at night.
