Folks, experiencing very painful feet (on ball of foot) just were I clip into pedals. The pain is actually quite bad and seems to occur when I've hit 100km on the road bike.

Has anyone experienced this and what have they done to rectify it? (And if there's another thread open about this, please publish a link.)

Move cleats back, drop saddle a few mm.

Yes, I actually did this today for my ride...

I think the next thing to do is move cleats as suggested above and see if that makes a difference.

    Thanks for your comments.

I get this after 10km now  Will be rotating the cleats slightly before the spin tomorrow - will see if that helps.
And yes - loosening the shoes does help, but somewhat defeats the purpose.

I know exactly this discomfort you are describing, I only go for 99km cycles now. No issues anymore.

    Hi
I get the same but I get it around the 80km. So bad, I sometimes have to get off for a few mins to relieve the pain. I have recently had a proper bike fit with a bike mechanic, that made the bike more comfotable to ride, but no change on the feet. I then went to a pediatrist (foot specialist) and had an assessment. He made these insoles for my bike shoes and it worked, they are only trial insoles and if they work, he ll make me a proper pair long term. This for sure relieved the pain I was experiencing in the ball of my foot.
I walk on the outside of my foot , (most people if they have foot issues is because they have fallen arches and walk on the inside) but me on the other hand does the opposite, so he reckons that my metarsals are being over stressed and the longer the cycle the more work my metarsals are being put underpressure, so the trial insoles he made are to help life the outer metarsals and inturn then place pressure equally across my 5 metarsals.
I hope this helps anyway as I know the pain you are experiencing, and its not nice.

If you put your shoes on and mark the ball of your foot on the outside of the shoe. When you have done this you will have two marks on each shoe draw a straight line between each of them with a pencil. Next you will see a line on your cleat make sure that this line and the line you have drawn correspond. The reason for the pain might be due to the cleat not been in the centre of you foot when you are applying pressure to the pedal. If you still have some pain you can get molded insoles for about €40 I have got these and they make a hugh difference.

I had to do the opposite with the cleats, on my right foot only ( move them forward a bit), the joys of having one foot a half size bigger than the other.

Tripledaz can you let me know where you got this done. I've suffered with this for years, mostly when doing 100km+ cycles too, but I find it comes on quicker when the weather's hot.

    Thanks.
