hi everyone , im so pissed off its really annoying me at this stage .. im 19 and i have full licence, i have no penalty points or anything bad on my licence and so far i have one year experienced no claims bonus ..
my quote as a named driver on a colt 1.3 is 1700E !! , and that is the cheapest i could get ..
my girlfriend who has provisional licence and is insured as a named driver on an avensis is paying 500EE. wtf like ??

the whole system is f****d up in my eyes!

im thinkng of getting a 1.6 subaru impreza for my bday but most wont insure me or the insurance is too high .. and i dont have the money to be paying for expensive insurance .. its ridiculous

does anyone know any ways around this ? or to get cheaper insurance ?
like i see some of the boy racers with 2 litre turbos and some of them pay f**k all

i would really appreciate some advice :)

You're young, you're male, and you're looking at cars with a bit of a bad reputation to be honest. Insurance costs aren't going to be cheap. And i'm curious about how you're getting your quotes as a named driver? Who are you putting down as the main driver of the car?

1700 isnt bad. I paid 3000 3 years in a row, ive never had an accident or claim of any kind, as for you girlfriends insurance being cheaper, that wont be the case for long.

Stick with your colt for another year or two and get your full liscence, then think about changing it.

As advised - all you can do is phone around all the companies for a quote , no magic solution to your situation I'm afraid , young male drivers get screwed regardless.
Best to shelve the plans for the Impreza - they'll laugh at you.

    i'll do you one

for myself = 19 full license but no previous insurance on a 2007 1.4 honda civic hatchback is €2900

thats with axa on an online quote

i went back over my details and changed only one thing ... I went from male to female and the insurance dropped to €1700

Emailed axa about it and they want me to ring them to discuss it !

seriously like.... €1200 extra just cos i have a pair !

Online quotes for anyone under 25 are muck.

When i was getting quotes last year, 22, full license for 4 years with 4 years driving experience as a named driver. Online Aviva were quoting me 2000 plus. After ringing up, and going through a broker that came down to under 1000. That's on a 1.4 Polo btw.

get a speed restrictor in your car, i know a lad who had it done years ago to lower the price he was payin. not too sure who installs the restrictor but i think at the time it was the insurance companies promoting these restrictors. Basically the restrictor limits you to the speed limit of the road you are driving on. IF you go over the speed limit the car will start beeping notifying you that you are driving too fast. Its a good idea in my opinion as there is too many boy racers on the road driving cars that go too fast.

I was using the online quotes just as a guide so i know i can be insured... i will be making calls to a fair few different places when i actually get a car.

I've heard before that calling will work out cheaper than online.
But if thats true i think i'll be popping down to my local axa branch in a business suite and throw them a few of my business cards !

I agree with this completely ... i've said before many times i'm fed up being crucified by insurance companies just for a minority that break the law by speeding and the likes....provided they limit the car from speeding and not just beep !

I also agree with what they do in america where again to lower your insurance they'll have you install a camera pointing out your windscreen to see whats going on ahead and if you crash it saves the recording ... brilliant idea i think.

The one im not soo sure about is the curfew of not being allowed to drive at certain times... e.g between 11pm and 6am..... i find that one a bit stupid to be honest... i remember working over christmas i'd be stuck in the job until about 11:30pm and would have to get home in the snow ! ... or if something happened like my dad was in hospital and i needed to get there at 2 in the morning like... i just dont agree with the curfew .... but the others are good ideas !

Speed limit restrictions for just younger drivers are a bit stupid.

I.E. road for normal drivers would be 80KM/H
but for younger would be 60KM/H

that would just cos too much hassle if you ask me
