    Hey,

Ok so I was thinking about volunteering abroad in some form of community housing project for the summer while off college. Just a quick browse there and the average pirce of it is about 2,000 to 3,000 euros. How do I ummmm like raise that? I don't have any family or friends that would be willing to help sponsor me so does that make it very difficult to raise funds? What do I do? haven't a clue really, oh and I wouldn't be the most confident person ever, partially I'm hoping such activities could help build my confidence etc. Where do I begin? or will I just go back to watching Family Guy :pac:

    I'm joking....I've switched the tele off :o

You can volunteer in Ireland for free, and that would also help with your confidence.
What program is it that wants so much money? If it's a genuine charity, they usually help you out with the fundraising, give you tips, and even do some group fundraising.
If it's a company then it's much more difficult as people generally don't like giving money to companies for this sort of thing.

Many of the companies charging those fees have Irish staff and other costs to pay for. Some literally take your money, fly you over, bus you to your location, then you hear nothing for 8 weeks until they come back to collect you.

The general public are quite wary now of people who raise funds for these "pay to volunteer programmes" as people are aware that the money you raise is also paying for your flights and accommodation.

I would suggest Googling for small Irish NGOs. There are a number who would be happy to take you in return for you paying for your own flights, accommodation and giving a small contribution to the charity.

What college are you in? Many/Most have small groups who go overseas during the summer - either officially or unofficially. Check with your Societies Officer and Student Union
