It shares a lot with the Ford Fiesta/Fusion

The 1.25 engine is a Ford unit from the 90's, generally well thought of, nice power for size and quite smooth.

The 2 wouldn't be an obvious choice, and not a lot of them are around, the previous Demio model was a lot more popular

There isn't a whole lot wrong with them, they're well built and should be no problem if it's been loooked after previously.

That one seems a tad pricey though.

This Fiesta Ghia 1.4 Ghia which is a whole 3 years newer and half the mileage is the same price

There's a rake of 06 1.25 Fiestas he'd get in his price range.

The Fiesta is a much nicer car overall and shares all the oily bits so no real advantage to go Mazda in this case.

Do you think so?He likes the idea of some controls on the steering wheel. Not sure what they are but don't think they are on the Fiesta steering wheel?

There are some nice elements, but overall it's tall, narrow, small wheels, typical Mazda interior - light grey plastics and awkward seats.

The Fiesta has them behind the steering wheel

They're a lot more intuitive than on the Mazda, you can flick the volume up and down by the 2 buttons that you click towards you, you can change stations by flicking the Seek switch on the top forwards or backwards, and you can switch between CD and radio using the Mode button.

    Simples

It should also be noted that the Fiesta I linked to has:
Air conditioning, Alloy Wheels and Front fogs

So they are just radio controls?

not to be smart but would the fiesta not be a typical ford cabin or it is more comfortable? Did not realise the seats were awkward. must test drive one myself out of curiosity. One thing I do not like is the hazard is on the dash rather thanover the steering but prob like that in the ford too

    nice

Yes those controls on the wheel are for the radio.

Ford stopped putting the hazard switch on the steering column in the 90s.

Ive only driven a Mazda2 once but it shares the seat adjustment with the 323. Ie. You can't adjust the whole seat up and down, just the front half.

That car is only worth 4k tops.

01 fiesta zetec has it there

but he won't sell it for that will he? no car for sale is worth the price asked by the garage

The 01 fiesta is a revised version of the 89 model so no surprises there.

Fair enough a garage will never get their asking price, but in a car of that value you'd leave a few hundred for negotiation, not 2 grand.

The car is overpriced, this doesn't mean theyll agree on a reasonable price.
    Some idiot might buy it
It might be in stock next year
    They might drop the price
    Who knows, not your problem!

All I'm saying is don't pay that much for a 7 year old unpopular car.

might get my pal to offer him four grand;) see what happens

It seems to me garages are slow to come down waiting for the one born every minute to amble along instead of knocking off 2 k or whatever it is over priced by. Thanks for the info anyway

    EDIT
    what about this one

That garage will have that car on their forecourt a long time if they think they will get anywhere near that asking price for a 7 year old Mazda 2.

Here is a low mileage 07 for less money:
