Where to get married? (abroad)

    Hi everyone!

I'm hoping you can help me out with some suggestions. My OH and I have decided we would like to get married abroad. We are thinking about Spain but from a thread here it seems that as a non resident you can only get married in a catholic ceremony. Now we may do this but I don't consider myself religious so would probably prefer a civil ceremony. First off, is the above correct? If it is, do you have to be in the country for a specific amount of time before you can get married? (We are both Irish catholic if that makes a difference)

If anyone could point me in the direction of where I would get some info I would be very grateful, I have googled it and am coming up with conflicting info.

Apart from that, I am looking for some alternatives.

The reasons we picked Spain are that there are plenty of nice beaches/coastal areas we could pick from. It is reasonably cheap and very easy to get to. The weather was also a factor! The last requirement is that the country be vegetarian friendly!

So if you have any suggestions please don't be shy!

    Thanks

Hi there congrats on yer engagment.Im getting married in spain on the costa del sol next friday 20th may and its going to be fantastic.Theres a huge crowd travelling and its easily accessible via daily to malaga airport from both cork and dublin.
For the wedding to be legally recognised in spain you have to get married in the catholic church but you can have a blessing over there and do the civil cermony either before ye go or after ye get home from spain.

Best of luck with whatever ye decide.
