The new qualifying system for snooker players to gain a place on the main tour began on Wednesday in the academy in Sheffield.
Three events over three weeks will be held and the semi finalists from each event wii be granted a place on the tour.

Many familiar names who lost their place on the main circuit are back again to try and make another go of a snooker career none more so than former world number 2 Tony Knowles and number 7 Mike Hallett who as luck would have it were drawn against each other in the first round.
    Hallett incidentally won 4-0.

I'll post the semi finalists names here when they reach that round, names I'm sure we'll here a lot of over the coming seasons.

Suprised nothing mentioned about David Moriss qualifying in the second tournament to get straight back onto the tour. In his interview on world snooker he said he took all the ptc's like pro ams last year and didnt take it serious. Hopefully he can make an assualt on the top 32 next year he has the talent, but hopefully he has the desire this time around.

Sorry been away for a few days!
Agreed it's great to see Davy Morris straight back onto the tour, he's a nice lad and a good player, I just feel he's missing something, hopefully he makes the latter stages of more ranking events this year and has a good season.

On another note it was Interesting to see that James Wattana has been given a wild card for next season.
I'm sure one or two fellow pros might feel a bit aggrieved about that.

I cant understand it to be honest. Whats the point giving Wattana a wild card when you can give a promising young player the wild card. The wild cards should be used to try bring fresh talent through the game for example i would probably give it to Luca Brecel. Has a great amateur carear already at such a young age.

On Moriss its hard really to say. He made it sound like he hasnt been taking the prob tour serious enough in his interview. Getting kicked off could be the kick he needs to realise if he wants to make a living he is going to have to put more effort in. He had a good amateur carear and was competing with for example Trump and was an excellent break builder. But watching him on the pro tour he rarely makes the big breaks he used to, im not sure why this is. The English and Chineese players are practicing in the academy and the Welsh usually work alot with Terry Griffiths. I dont know who Moriss is practising with but i think it makes a big difference playing possibly better players day in day out in the academy. Their is not much young players making an impact on the tour the likes of Jamie Jones and Micheal White were expected to do well, Wengbo did but struggled this year, while Trump until the end of this year had not done much. Its frustrating as its nice to see young players coming through with all the extra tournaments hopefully we will see some young guns come through the rankings. On Moriss the thing he seemed to be missing is his break building which needs to get better to compete at the top level. Also i noticed he lost alot of final frame deciders last year but he beat Gary Wilson 4-3 and came from 3-1 down to win 4-3 to qualify.

As far as I'm aware Luca brecel did get a wildcard or so he said on his website anyway. Hence why he didn't participate in Q school.

Luca Brecel did get a wildcard along with James Wattana, Lucky Vatnani and Yu Delu.
I have a feeling Wattana has been given a wildcard because along with the snooker world cup being held in June, the WPBSA are trying to arrange a future ranking event return to Thailand. Wattana even though he's had a very disappointing last five years or so is still a big draw in Thailand.

Vatnani being Indian really explains itself as a ranking event is almost certain to be held next season in India.

Morris meanwhile has earned his chance through the Q school and deservedly so, I hope he goes on now to have a good season.
