    They're rather mystical aren't they?

Anyways you get Tawny Owls all over Britain but they're completely absent in Ireland. Does anyone know why?

Ive heard that there are two reasons why they arent here.
The main reason is purely because they dont fly very far. And certainly wouldnt fly across some open sea.

The second reason is because we dont have any voles living in ireland which was part of the main diet of the tawny owl in the past.
They could live here now because we have rats and now a few voles too but they wont make it over here naturally anyway.
As far as i know there was never ever a single sighting of one here.
