Hoping someone can help out here

I have a 03 Mondeo Zetec with just shy of 150k miles up on her. Last night after i was playing football i pressed the key fob to open the doors, but no joy. Figured the battery was gone in the fob so I was not too bothered, and opened the door with the key, which only opened the drivers door. I thought that was a bit weird as with my old fiesta when i manually unlocked the door, all 4 unlocked.

The car started fine, but the electric windows were not working, nor was the radio, or any of the gauges/clocks.

All of the lights are fine too.

I'm thinking/hoping a fuse has blown for some reason. Anyone got any other possible reasons.

Have you checked the wiring harness between the door & body work on both the drivers and passenger sides?

Nope. The car is in the garage at the moment, just wondering how badly my arse is gonna feel after they're done with me.

    Yea that's what i suspected!

What year is the car? you didn't bring it to a main dealer did ya?

An auto electrican would be able to splice the harness back together and test whats broken (if anything).

Presume they cut the loom. Maybe you can get a second hand replacement?

Was it a ford main dealer that looked at it?

I have no claims protection on my policy, so pay €150 excess and it's covered by AA

Check the terms, my mother got caught on that it stepped back her no claims 2 years after the claim.

2 years AFTER it happened?? Ok, thanks for the heads up, will double check that when the assessor rings me

He means that she lost 2 years NCB, ie she went from having 5 years to having 3.;)

As the others advised, i'd also recommend bringing it to a decent auto electrician rather than a main dealer. Maybe give Hamiltons a call, 01-4755157, they're just off Camden St.

She had 5+ years no claims, her renewal this year says 3 years no claims and her insurance went up €180 on last year.

Its an 8 year old car, no need to go to a dealer. I'd insert 6" or so of new wire into each of the cut wires (this new bit will flex in the door jam), solder it back up and shrink wrap each wire, replace any blown fuses and take it from there...

Better than paying ford €500! Also how do they know how much it will be? have the fitted a new harness or re-joined the old one to make sure other modules aren't damaged?

They haven't done anything yet, waiting on the assessor to contact me. They'll want to see it first and quite probably bring it to that guy Anan mentioned and still stiff me!! :D

Gone from seething anger to mild indifference. :)
