Opinions on updating BIOS?

Just wondering what people's general opinion on updating the BIOS on laptops/PCs is? Is it a case of it it's not broken, don't fix it, or do people religiously update them as soon as a new one is out?

For me it was always a case of the former, I had never updated mine since day one. I was looking around the dell site last night and saw that there was a BIOS update for my Vostro 1500, read up about it and saw that it was supposed to fix a few temp issues, loaded up it last night and it did as it said on the tin, the fan is going off way less often and there is a lot less heat pumping out the side of her.

Has anyone ever been burned by a bios update that made things worse than they were before?
