Oil-Fired Boiler Problems

    Hi Guys,
    Any bright sparks have any brainwaves on the following?;
    My oil-fired boiler stopped working last night. Thought the oil was a little low so topped it up to no avail. Bled air form system and cleaned the 'magic-eye' sensor in the body of the burner, then tried it - could hear the burner going through the motions but no ignition. Waited for 20 mins for good measure and it started but cut out after 1 or 2 mins. Then left it over night and it started up ok again this am but cut out again a few minutes later? ANy clues? Could it be the water pump blocked or failed - would the burner stop if the water wasn't being pumped?
    :mad:

    try turning the boiler stat down to its lowest swithch on the boiler let it run till it stops turn up the boiler stat if the burner cuts back in then its more than likely the water pump before you go and buy a new one take the screw out of the centre make sure the water doesnt run on to anything electrical there a slot in the pump spindle stick your screw driver in and give it a spin some time it frees them up for another few months

    I've seen this problem many times. It sounds like your burner needs to be serviced.

    Yes. If your problem is with the burner your burner will go to lockout and you would need to push the reset light/button, if your not doing that then your problem is with the system, air lock, pump, :confused:

    Cleared the pump impeller - no problem. Pump is running. Possibly fuel pump problem - at the limit of my abilities, have called 'the man' - surpising how quickly your house gets cold without a blast of heat ! thanks.
