As long as it's not parked on the street you won't need to tax it until you're ready to take it back on the road. You must be taxed for any month your car IS on the road (or part of a month)

Assuming you've just got your renewal, your tax probably expires at the end of this month. Which means that in 8 weeks you'll be looking at only having been of the road for all of June.

What you do is get a motor tax form, complete the portion for the car having been off the road, get it signed and stamped at your local garda station and then take it to the motor tax office.

You're not fined for paying late. In fact you even get a month's grace, so if you didn't renew your tax until sometime in June, you'd still pay the same amount as if you paid it before the end of May.

No you don't need to tax it. When you want to next tax it, go to a garda barracks and get a renewal form and declare it was off the road for the two months and get a garda to sign it and bobs your uncle!
