    Hey,

I play in a rock cover band doing everything from led zep to KOL to foo fighters to rhcp. I bought a Marshall mg 100 hdfx there about 6 months ago second hand, and if i'm honest i'm not crazy about it.

I'd be looking for something about 100 watts and second hand suits me fine, the vox amps seem to have a lovely warm tone to them. Also it doesn't need a load of effects as i play rhythm and sing.

    All suggestions welcome!!!!!

Budget? There's no point in us throwing out massively priced amps when you've got a tiny budget :D

sorry dude, looking for something less than €300, similar to a second hand mg 100 hdfx.

a mate of mine uses a roland cube in the band and tis a cool little amp

Try the Vox VT series. 50 watts will probably do you but the 100 watt is available. Very versatile amp and you can get a very nice tone for the price

keep your eyes open for a vox VT100 or the older model the AD100 second hand. I used to own one before I went all valve. Giged it in a cover band for 2 years, let me down once, a solder went in the head (quick fix), but it was gigged fairly hard and had lots of gig and practice hours up before i upgraded! also its tone range is ideal for what you are playing, it does nice cleans, and a nice overdrive, not a fantastic "metal" tone, but that never bothered me! only thing i didnt like about it was it didnt take pedals very well.

another decent solid state amp is the peavy bandit, and as you mentioned the roland cube.

My first amp was a 50 watt mardhall MG, broke my heart! broke a lot, and sounded pretty bad. The marshall AVT range are not brillient either, a step up from the MG, but still in my opinion inferior to the vox, bandit and cube. last time i used a avt it broke!

The new fender mustang IIIs are in around that. Worth a look.

Those marshall mg's are the worst amps I've ever seen/heard/played in my life.
Pretty much anything you can get for around 300€ will be better than the marshall.

    Marshall JCM900 combo?

You'll get all the tones you're after with this I'd say.

I use to use one in a rented practice space.
    Savage amps.

Definitely usable for the bands mentioned in the OP.

I'd try and move away from low end combo's like the MG series. Try and get something with some tubes in it. You should have a look at the peavy classic series and the Laney VC and LC combo's. These are fairly affordable second hand and will be miles better than what you are using right now.
