Video Editing Laptop - Advice please :)

Hi folks,

Just graduated university and plan on travelling with a friend for the guts of a year or even longer...

Anyway I would like to make a few videos etc just to keep a record of our travels and memories. In terms of video editing, I am not a novice as such but certainly not well experienced. I have used sony vegas and windows movie maker but thats about it. I understand rendering videos can eat your RAM with no mercy.

To get to the point, I am selling my desktop and hoping to gain a laptop for traveling. The idea would be to have one that could enable some video editing and other standard stuff that you do with a PC. I have had a look online but I dont know what I should concentrate on for this functionality.

If anyone could offer some advice and possibly examples of a laptop that would suit this function that would be great. Ideally I don't want to go overboard on price, but something around £500 sterling would be a good benchmark.

Found this gem might be a little pricey but is very powerful with a new i7 Quad core processor that will be great for rendering. Also has a gorgeous HD screen, and not to forget the pretty good graphics card that will play any modern games at decent levels. Downside is its quite heave at nearly 3kg.

This one offers a bit less performance but is a 13 incher which from my experience is an ideal middleground between performance and size.

Those both have decent specs, the first asus that is a beast has a great spec for it. The weight could be a nuisance though. I wouldnt be too bothered about the gaming aspect, but do you think I could work with a 13" screen for like editing etc. Was thinking 15ish would be suitable? I wasnt too sure though. Thanks for looking though.

Only problem I can see is that it is an unknown brand, to me anyway. Does anyone think this laptop is decent for what I am looking for? Or does anyone know if these laptops are reliable?

I know it doesn't have an OS but I have disks laying about so that wont be a problem.

Also it says "Expansion - 9 in 1 card reader" does that mean it has a card reader, or you can put one in?
