When I got my old lcd now 5 years old I just went around to tv stores/read some reviews and picked up the best one I could afford. Im now trying to replace my current lcd with something abit bigger 46-50" range and all the tvs I've tried have a myriad of problems (wtf has happened to quality control lol)

I've decided on one of these two, what do you guys think?

The D8000 LED 46" or the Panisonic VT30 Plasma 50"

Neither! I looked at both and the flicker from the active 3D didn't suit me, So I got an LG 55'' LW550 passive glasses(same as the cinema) and it is a great set, Easily the best 3D I've seen in a home set and top class 2D performance too, owner feedback over on AVForum is excellent too ;)
Its available in 42'' and 47'' with a cashback offer too if your a Sky customer ;)

I dont know why but I have a thing against Lg being low quality sets no idea where it came from.

I prefer the Active Sets to the passive as I dont see the flicker anyway + the added resolution.

Id get the new Sony 923 If the 3d is good but the current consensus on the American version is that it Isn't.

Going to demo some sets at the weekend what sets from Lg should I check out 47" preferably

I have the 46D8000 for a few weeks now. It is a fabulous TV. The picture quality is stunning in 2D and 3D. I have had no issues with 3D. I could not recommend it enough.

The bluray 3d standard has already been agreed upon so even if new tvs come out with new ways of delivering 3d your current tv will still play it back.

If you have sky and like sports then you get 2 3d soccer matches a week + champions league + darts + tennis and golf, and you get 3d films also :), Even without sky due to the uptake of 3d nearly all major film releases are in 3d and and going to flood the new bluray 3d releases starting at the end of the summer. And dont forget the 3d gaming etc etc ... Uncharted 3

I need a new tv currently as my 5 year old sammy is just looking worse and worse compared to all the new kit thats out there, If ya dont need a new tv I still think come next year most tvs sold will be 3d enabled due to the big push they are going to get from the retail release of Avatar and the Olempics

@block the d8000 46 is 1899 in expert stores here in Cork, more specifically dyers expert

@rolion a good few peoplw suffer headaches with the active 3d technology due to the way it works, if it affects you you should look at the lgs passive 3d system instead.

I'm now thinking of getting an lg 47" passive 3dtv

Seems to be getting a good review and with a sky discount it works out pretty well.

Just that paying 2 grand for a samsung and then finding a minor fault might be hard to return and a hard pill to swallow.

panasonic not as dominant in the 3dtv as 2010

eircom sucks have you tried 3d movies from the net, are they good and having it for almost a week do you use the 3d much?

i got a Pana 50VT20 from Currys last day...quite impressed with 3D ( i have a projector so size is not a great point to me) .I understood that in order to get the best vieweing experience in 3D you need big big size !
so,i plugged in,turn on,select SKY 3D and ...whoooawww,very impressed !good quality, real effects but in Eurosport sometime the system can't keep the pace with the fast moving tennis ball !
    overall,impressed and painfull !

does this headache goes away once you start using it more and more ??

    shouldn't be laughing but lol

hopefully it does :) was really really close to buying the vt20
brilliant picture and has freesat as well, have to fork out for a box later on

just so much out there it gets confusing and every set has some weaknesses making them not perfect like one hopes when forking out that lump of money!

tbh, headache going slowly away once you are using it more and more..
i've spent about 4 weeks on adverts, reviews,Pana web site, all the major online retailers...knew all terms and specs and frequency ,sizes down to the last pixel...also,got lost in the terminology st,vt,gt,eu,ux....i went to closest shop and "asked" for most expensive Pana in stock ! btw,Currys have a nice setup in there, wondering about their electricity bill :)

overall ,a nice piece of art, highly recommended !

banie01 bought the 47" LW550 and there is a very bad light leakage from the bottom left hand corner as well as from the other 3 corners as well but not as much.

Thankfully currys are giving me a replacement tv but was wondering should I get a refund.

You could see the fault clearly when the lg logo comes up after just switched on and also especially when watching a film with black borders.

I was wondering how yours is with light leakage and how much is acceptable?
