Football teams - take your plastic bottles and tie ups home with you

I walked through St Annes park, Raheny with a friend last Sunday and we were disgusted at the litter strewn around the various 'soccer' football pitches near Sybil Hill.

Discarded empty plastic bottles of Lucozade were left on the sides of the pitches with tape and tie ups, chocolate bar wrappers, the odd footie sock and tape to attach the nets to the goalposts.

This scene repeated itself at a half dozen pitches.

I have seen this picture before on a Sunday morning after Saturday afternoon matches.

Why should the staff at the park have to clean this mess up every weekend?

My solution is to 'ban and fine' both teams who have used the pitch. The ban would be for a month and the fine would be €50. And no recourse to appeal. The teams don't play there again until the fine is paid. And if they repeat the offence, the ban is for 6 weeks and the fine goes up to €100.
Managers of teams should ensure players and spectators bring their rubbish home and not leave it behind them for others to clean up. If they deposited such litter on a street they'd be charged and fined.
