Hi, here is hoping i am in the right place for what i need.

I am now being prescribed imigran Subject [an injection form of the drug you administer yourself] this costs £51 for 2 injections and i can get freely if i had the time to fly back and forth to the UK at will.

however there seems to be some "talk" as to if it is available here on the drug payment scheme or not, i have been told by my chemist it is not, and by others it is.

Also the drug here costs depending on where you go between €150 and €250, why do we stand for being ripped off like this? when they can sell it for £51 in the UK, it is so maddening.

Anyway, my question is does anyone here know for sure if it is or is not available on this scheme please.

also.... I will look but is there a boards Migraine forum? sick of suffering alone
    thanks

i could be wrong here, but i think it would be good to have a support group for suffers.... i know there is the Migraine Assoc. but there is no forum on there, and no where for people to chat and discuss new meds and where to go etc...

mine are getting worse, and its a case now finding the right drug, but cost is a huge issue and i need to talk to people in the same boat so to speak... i thought here would be a good place to start... hoping you can help :)

like things i want to know
    i cant find
    • a list of drugs covered on the long term illness card
    • a price for imigran subject in Ireland
    • a forum for migraine sufferers in Ireland
    • an answer as to why we suffer paying inflated prices compared to our friends across the water for basic health needs, like did you know on the medical card you can get one filling a year but ONLY as long as that filling is different, ie you cannot have the SAME tooth filled with in a 3 year period?
    • a root canal and bridge work in Ireland costs 3K in the UK £40

Imigran injection hasn't been given a licence by the Irish Medicines Board in this country and therefore needs to be imported from other countries such as the UK by specialist wholesalers. This pushes up the price for the pharmacies to then buy it from the wholesalers. Because it doesn't have a licence in the country there are also insurance issues with it being prescribed by the doctor and dispensed by a pharmacy which also increases the price! However, it should be covered by the €120 DPS scheme as long as it has prior approval from the local health board, simple phone call from your regular pharmacy should sort this out for you!!!

The LTI scheme doesn't cover drugs, it covers conditions - all the necessary drugs to treat that condition are covered. Current conditions covered are:
    • Mental handicap
    • Mental illness (for people under 16 only)
    • Diabetes insipidus
    • Diabetes mellitus
    • Haemophilia
    • Cerebral palsy
    • Phenylketonuria
    • Epilepsy
    • Cystic fibrosis
    • Multiple sclerosis
    • Spina bifida
    • Muscular dystrophies
    • Hydrocephalus
    • Parkinsonism
    • Acute leukaemia
    • Conditions arising from use of Thalidomid
[*]a price for imigran subject in Ireland
someone in this forum may be able to help you, or ask in a pharmacy?
[*]a forum for migraine sufferers in Ireland
if you like, you can start threads in this forum. You're free to request a forum, but I doubt one will be created on boards to be honest.

I think only your politician can help you with these ones, to be fair. You can certainly discuss those issues, within reason, but I doubt you'll get any real answers on an internet forum.
