Buying a car abroad

Anyone have experience of buying abroad? Is it worthwhile buying the car abroad and bringing it back here or does it work out much the same? What sort of tax do you have to pay to get it transferred to Irish registration back here? Thinking of going to Spain for one.

Depends on the car in question. There is still the possibility of making significant savings against a comparable vehicle bought here, and you will in any event have a bigger market to draw from so more chance of getting 'exactly' what you want in the used market.

Go to www.vrt.ie as regards tax. You have to pay VRT on your import which is calculated by revenue on the basis of the perceived open market selling price of the vehicle you import, when you present the vehicle for assessment after you bring in it. You have 30 days following import to complete that process including paying the assessment.

Are you sure it is not a scam you are looking at? Lots of scams going around from bogus sellers giving bs stories about how they moved jobs abroad, brought the car with them and now decided to sell it on very cheap.

Do you have a link to the car you are interested in?

Not a scam. I'm on about buying a new car in a proper garage like. Haven't decided what type yet, still looking.

    Thanks lads.
