Was up in TKMaxx in Carrickmines at the weekend and picked up the hardback version of this book for just under 10 euros.

    http://www.amazon.com/501-Must-Read-Books-Emma-Beare/dp/0753714159

The books selected are categorised (history, scifi, biopics, modern fiction, classics etc.) and the range is vast. While you might find that some of your favourite books are missing its still got a fantastic range of books to recommend and has been compiled by serious book lovers.
Its got a page per book so you'll get a good overview of the selections.
