Thinking of getting one that connects via USB as my laptop is constantly overheating and shutting down. Does anyone have any experience with them, like are they worth getting or not? Or have any tips on how to cool down a laptop?

    Thanks

If your laptop is getting That hot, to where it's overheating and shutting down, something else is wrong. Are the vents clear? How old is the laptop? How much dust is probably clogged in the cooling system?

It's only a couple of years old. No idea if the vents are dusty as I can't see into them. Usually only happens when I'm playing a game or watching a DVD.

My mums was doing this aswell... got her one of them cooling fans and shes had no problems since. She leaves it lying on the bed with the fan under it and still doesnt overheat.
The one I got was only €9.99 in TK Maxx!

Probably dust build-up though. This happens. Compressed air into the vents will usually blast out the worrst offenders, and at least get caked-on dust out of the major airflow paths. getting it out completely might be difficult but it will get shoved into the corner so to speak with a good blast of air.
