So over the past few years I've noticed I haven't seen red apples in shops anymore. There's like pink ladies and those red/yellow/green apples but no red red red proper red apples.

    Anyone know why? :P

Eh, you can still get them. I only get red, not a fan of green apples.

Granny Smith Apples are by far the nicest.
Red ones are traditionally poisonous if my memory serves me right.

Tesco do organic ones that are red but not very nice imo. Cripps Pink FTW

The only apples easily available in shops are those that can withstand the long journeys they have to make. This applies to all fruits really. The really tasty varieties are usually the most delicate and they are not stocked because of the huge losses that the supermarkets would incur.

Supermarkets only offer you the illusion of choice.

I only buy red apples - they have them everywhere. WTF, OP?

They're so hard to come by in Limerick.

All I can ever find is like hybrid half green half red apples in Supermarkets...both Dunnes and Tesco.

I'm looking for the above...and not the below.

I get them in Superquinn, Sutton (Dublin) - and they had even redder ones than your example. Like this:

I know what you mean, OP. I love Empire red apples, but can't find them anywhere. They were huge, hard and crispy, just yummy.

Now it's just the little ones, with greeny bits. They're all semi mushy inside too - not a proper crunch to them at all.

    Bring back Empire apples!!

I remember those red apples. Always thought they were powdery sh:te.

Are Jonagold red enough? Dunnes Stores organic section. Good Irish produced apples IMO.
