    Hi,

I just bought a new car on scrappage yesterday, the dealer asked me to bring my Vehicle Licensing Certificate with me, what I brought instead was the Vehicle Registration Certificate. When he described to me what the VLC looked like it didn't sound familiar at all. He gave me the new car anyhow, and asked me to hand in the VLC when I found it. However I don't have it...so now I have to get a replacement one. However I have just started a 5 day holiday in Kerry, and will be unable to get to a tax office for a couple of days. How stressed should I be about this? Should I break my holiday and drive across the country to go to the tax office in Wexford where the car was registered, or will a couple of days not make a difference.

    Cheers

    E.

Wait and do it on your return, enjoy the holiday, no immediate rush :)

I'd enjoy the holiday and don't stress. When you return print off this form https://www.motortax.ie/OMT/pdf/RF134_en.pdf bring it to Garda station to sign it and send it to the Vehicle Licencing Unit, Shannon, Co. Clare with a draft cheque, cheque or postal order for 12 Euros. The log book will be posted back to you.

Yes I have lost a few in my time :D

I'm pretty sure the VRC and the VLC are the same thing. It changed to VRC in 2004.
If you sell your vehicle privately, part B of the Vehicle Licensing Certificate, (Vehicle Registration Certificate for post-April 2004 vehicles) which you would have received when you bought the vehicle, should be completed and returned to the Driver and Vehicle Computer Services Division of the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport. The new details will be registered and the certificate will be sent to the new owner. The Vehicle Registration Certificate, which you also get when you buy a pre-April 2004 vehicle, should be given to the new owner at the time of the sale.

    I've a 97 and when I re-registered it I received a Vehicle Registration Certificate back.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

    Thanks for your replies.

Well the dealer has my Vehicle Registration Certificate but says he needs the VLC. I don't remember getting a VLC but he has asked me to get a replacement VLC as a matter of urgency as we have done the deal and I have the new car, hence the reason for the post.

I guess its a question of how urgent it is, I am planning to call the motor tax office anyhow.

Is the certificate you gave him the one that a new owner would use to fill in his/her details on the back?

If so, I don't know what else the dealer is looking for.

Out of curiosity what car did you scrap and what new car did you get?

you get a vlc from revenue when you tax your car but relax as if its lost you just have to fill out an rf134 form and get it signed at garda station , it will take about 5 days for new one to come out to you at a cost of €12 euro, if you need any help pm me .

    Thanks for all your replies..

A new vlc has been ordered. Apparently there is some confusion about this, one official in the motor tax office assured me that the Vehicle Licensing Cert is the same as the Registration Cert..after speaking to him, I hung up the phone and dialled again, got a different person and they told me that pre 2004 there was a VLC and a VRC....which is what the dealer told me.

Anyhow I have applied for a new VRC.

I am scrapping a VW polo and have bought a new Skoda Octavia. Needed a bigger car, although the polo was running very well.
