Car got scratched by someone

    Hi all,

I noticed a few scratches on the rear driver side of my car, its parked in a private car park. I noticed that dust had been brushed off the car in or around the scrathes themselves indicating the person responsible tried to pull a fast one and hope I wouldn't notice. Anyways as its a small car park and it was not long before I discovered who did it- we spoke about it, and he admitted responsibility so happy days.

The scratches are not major on the rear bumper, scrapes all along the wheel arch- Appears to be no deep indentation to the bumper or arch, just a few white lines that my nail hits off when ran through it. It looks not too bad but I probably underestimate the level of work required. Should I get a quote from a body repair specialist to do the work? If anybodys know anybody decent in the Dublin area they might let me know or drop me a PM?

I would go the halfords route of picking up a spray can and doing it myself, however they can't match the paint exactly (I was looking for a touch up pen a few weeks ago to repair some stone chips on the front of the car, the paint looked miles off).

Its a special Alfa Nero-Metallico paint- so its a possibility I might have to go through an Alfa dealer to get this- and of course this would probably cost more for the guy who is paying for it.

    Advice welcome. Thanks

I'd nearly leave it alone yourself. Get one of the paintdoctor type lads to have a go. I'd say they'd match up the paint no prob.

Get quotes off body shops or smart repair folks as gpf101 has suggested. Do not consider attempting it yourself.

    alfa dealer not neccerary...
any decent bodyshop can do this...
personally I would go with a bodyshop and not a repair doctor..
had too many bad experiences with these mobile repairs on metal work, great work on plastic though

Okay I won't bother doing it myself- best to leave it to the people that know what they are doing!

Anybody have any recommendation for Body Repair Shops in Dublin?

Sorry, but I have to take you up on that. There's no difference for me between painting metal and plastic. If you had an issue, it was down to the technician, not the fact that it's a call out service. Please don't tar all SMART repairers with the same brush. Here's a classic Mini I did which is all metal, no issues :

I'm good, but I can't magic that missing bit back in :D

To the OP, definitely echo the recommendations of others, even if you could get a perfectly matching aerosol, it'll look terrible. You'll always see the matt aerosol standing out a mile on top of the glossy lacquer in the rest of the panel, plus, any scratches will be amplified by the new paint on top.

Halfords and the like make some amount of selling Aerosols to people who think they can fix cars just by pushing down a nozzle. I was in there on Sunday (Caught redhanded by Mikdaman) buying a load of fibreglass stuff for a project, and it's in the same aisle as the paint, and I could hear some of the conversations going on. Scary stuff.

Leave it to the experts would be my advice
