    12/25/50/100Mb

Anyone thinking of upgrading to the higher packages in Charlesland?

I'm on the 30Mb and i am quite tempted by the 50Mb for an extra €3 a month.

Don't think i would have much need for 100Mb as i would run out of stuff to download in a day or two.

I enquired about the 100MB connection when it was first released and was told that it isn't in the area yet. Has this changed? They said they would be in contact when it is released in CL. I'll certainly give it a whirl if it has. I am a bandwidth whore.

On a side note, has anyone noticed a drastic reduction in speeds recently? I am on the 30MB and I am only getting 6! at the moment. I asked them about it, but they are looking into a different issue for me at the moment re response times to some London servers and I think it may be related. I am currently emailing them everyday with a speed test from their online test.

We've got the 20Mb with UPC. Started at 10, they upgrated if we signed a year's contract to 15, then upgrated us again to 20. I'm hoping they'll upgrade us again to 25 since I don't even see an option for 20 any more...

Has anyone rang them? They are saying its for new customers only.

I'd be looking for a free upgrade for the channels we've lost.

A gentle hint that you might consider cancelling and going elsewhere seems to do the trick though, and they eventually give in. There's a big thread on this over in the Broadband forum.

Last I checked it was not available yet in Charlesland. Someone heard otherwise?

Edit: just checked again, not available yet. 30mb is max

BB isn't available at all here in Bray, but UPC are busy upgrading their network, i.e. installing a brand new backbone through Shankill to connect the rest of their network with the Bray area. When that's complete (planned to be end of this year) we'll get HD and BB. Maybe Greystones will be able to piggyback on top of that somehow? Actually I find it a bit odd that Greystones has BB at all, as I'd always assumed that you'd get your feed via Bray.

its just Charlesland, its on a seperate system fed wirelessly.

The old Greystones marconi/chorus system is still there, but theres no digital let alone broadband and its not shown on UPC's upgrade plans. I'm not sure if many people still use it, everyone I know in Greystones town has Sky.

I was told by tech support on Friday that the new speeds are available in Charlesland.

Its so hard to get a straight answer from them!

Since they "upped" my speed I've yet to do a test getting over 3.2mbps.

They told me I'd get 10!

Like I said, I haven't been getting over 5 MB on my 30 MB connection for the past 2 weeks (at a guess).

Here is my latest result from http://speedtest.upc.ie.
Download Speed: 4327 kbps (540.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 2636 kbps (329.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
    Latency: 32 ms

Just to put things into perspective - here's my UTV Clicksilver telephone line broandband result using the UPC online speed test:

    Last Result:
Download Speed: 6387 kbps (798.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 557 kbps (69.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
    Latency: 18 ms

I'm super happy with that if you're failing to get above the 7.6Mb possible over the telephone line. :)

Contact them and complain. My 30Mb line maxes out on most tests.

I can confirm this after a phone call today.

I went for the 25Mb package instead. I seem to be getting a lot more for €5 more
