    That is AWESOME.

Reading on M5board that based on the rev/speedo clips top speed could be north of 210!!

    WANT..........

I've driven a few of the previous M-car (last M5 & M6) and on the launches of both, neither were really restricted. We (legally) saw north of 175mph before running out of tarmac so I wouldn't be surprised if the next one broke 200mph unrestricted.

    Cool stuff.

These test tracks are a bit overkill though, i think car design has reached a point where they know that the car will cope in virtually all conditions before its even built. Yes its necessary to push the car, but its just a case of making sure more than anything.

Can't wait to hear one first hand.

you are right - plus this is all marketing hype too. They know exactly how the track will perform, because its probably been on the Nurburgring too, but I've been to that Miramas place and it was awesome. BMW drip feed info on the cars to create lots and lots of hype!

Yeah the video is just marketing nonsense with a really annoying american voiceover "you can balance the new M5 using the gas pedal"

The car looks great though, hope it still has the precision and purity of previous iterations.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 66,402 ✭✭✭✭unkel

It will be some beast. The straight line performance of the F10 550i (without launch control) is nearly the same as the that of the E60 M5. And the F10 M5 (with launch control) must be a lot quicker than the 550i

0-100km/h in just over 4s??? That's getting close to supercar performance!

basically is super car performance but you can live and use one everyday just as practically as an octivia, id bet the engine would be good for 150,000 miles too if looked after, so supercar performance with out super car negatives.

Woah there, the M5 is a good car alright, but let's not go nuts!

The big boot on then octavia makes it a tad slower!

Its a large 4 door saloon, aside from MPG its fundamentally very practical.

I like that video, showed some insight into some testing and handling that would usually be in pure fluff marketing. The F10 looks awesome in MSport guise and that V8, great soundtrack. The LC seems to work well to, should seriously give Audi's AWD RS cars trouble now that BMW can actually launch with gusto.

I wonder if there is a limit to the number of times that you can use LC though before the clutch warranty is void.

I was working on an e60 M5 last weekend while a mechanic friend was servicing it. He did oil, diff oil, all filters, front and rear pads. On parts alone, it came to over 500 quid. An every day car, it'll never be.

That doesnt seem expensive at all!? Pads on my last VW alone were just about that from VW..
Dont think my mothers 535d would have any change from all that (9litres of motor oil alone..) partwise either.

That's cost. Excluding profit, and labour. And that's just those things. The guy's reshoeing it every couple of months, and replacing buckled 19" alloys.

Cost to the customer to walk away with parts of BMW internal cost?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭Owen

Neither, was trade prices to the Indy Mechanic from the Main Dealer. I'm just trying to highlight that this isn't a cheap car to own, no matter how old it gets. The guy who owns it has literally been pouring cash into it over the last year for the small amount of driving he does. He gave a main BMW Dealer 1200 Euro for the various oil and filter changes the last time without any other work.

Oddest thing about the e60 M5 was the oil filter location though. Was behind the bumper, literally, where you'd have a foglight. First tip off a corner, and you'd have no oil to get you home. Weird.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 279 ✭✭shogunpower

who actually cares about the cost of replacing buckled 19 inch alloys and the cost of servicing etc, an m5 was never and never will be a car for Ireland, where as the likes of Germany where it was designed for has decent roads. if you can afford one you can afford to keep the tank full aswell. so ignoring running costs, you get octivia practically/reliability and super car performance.

    Now that is weird :)

So the guy is racing it. Badly. You can't really blame the car for the wear & tear from that!

He's not using it much TBH, he has a other cars he uses daily. The M5's one of his toys.

Then why is he replacing tyres all the time? And really, damaging your wheels has everything to do with the driver and nothing to do with whatever car we are talking about

The E60 M5 has dry sump lubrication, different set than most cars. In fairness though if you can afford the M5 in the first place you can afford to use it as a daily driver.

I dont get this argument. You can get an M5 now for Golf money. Doesn't mean you can afford or want to spend big bucks running it. Plus using it as a daily driver is very expensive....trust me I know :-)

As far as road in Ireland go, it really depends on where you live.

I would have no problem using my 850CSi (which gets marginally more MPG than your M5) as a daily driver if I didnt have to commute 100km a day. I did it for 6mths though, was awesome, but pricey. But the distance is by far the biggest cost driver.
