Heard today that Fas was going to be disbanded by October, is this true? Im in my third year of an apprenticeship and was wondering how this will effect me if its true.

I'm not up to date with current events, but several months ago they had said it would be rebranded rather than disbanded.

Rebranding, couple of lay-offs, moving around the deckchairs etc.

FAS Cabra has been gone for months now. Did that make the news? 62 people working there and AFAIK all redeployed, no layoffs.

Only contract staff in FAS will be let go. Core staff who are public servants will not be. That's the truth, not PS bashing.

A few courses have disappeared off the training list for Limerick- I was hoping to sign up to one in September but it's no longer listed. I wonder if the changes have cut courses? Will they be coming back in another form?

If not, Limerick has been left with a load of absolute waste of time courses which will be of no benefit to anyone and one or two courses that not everyone can do.

I think the intention is to transfer more of the training roles to the ITs so in the process the FAS lists will be reduced. The idea being that they are better equipped to put together a superior offering at the same or perhaps given that there are some economies of scale a lower cost.

a certain amount of fas staff are being transferred to social welfare in september and so are the community welfare officers.

Everything will be run from social welfare - this whole new announcement that you will be assessed the fas staff and community welfare officers will all be on hand.

POintless exercise disbanding/rebranding if the same useless incompetent staff are being kept on. They'll just be useless and incompetent somewhere different now

and you know this how - nobody likes change but nothing can be worse than the way it is now.

If you use the system you would know how frustrating it is going from one to the next. you sign on then go to the community welfare officer to be paid and then go to fas to sign on. Now it will be all under the one roof.

this is a big change that will affect a lot of people

I've heard this more than once. In the most simple terms possible, oh yes it can.

I stood with chaos swirling around me and heard a voice from the sky say "Smile, because things could be worse"; and I smiled and things got worse.
