Continue Laser Sessions or Get Cover Up Tattoo

    Hi eveybody

I am currently gettting laser tattoo removal on a stupid tattoo that i got when i was 16 on my upper arm (i'm female). Its a heart surrounded by a flower and yes it is as tacky as it sounds! So i have got 12 sessions of laser tattoo removal so far and although it is really really faded, i seem to have hit a point with it where it's going no further. The girl who does the laser for me tells me that she can see it still fading but i am starting to doubt her.

My question is ... should i continue with the laser sessions or just admit defeat and get a nice cover up.

I hate the tattoo i have on my arm at the moment, it was an eeny meeny miny moe tattoo, no thought put into it whatsoever. But i also hate where it is. I want a tattoo-free arm and dread the thought of getting another tattoo on my arm but if this one isn't going anywhere i am going to have to. Are there ANY tattoo's out there that people would consider nice / tasteful on a girls upper arm? I have tried to think of a tattoo that would mean something to me but I'm not very creative so have come up with nothing so far . The only thing that really means anything to me is my daughter but i doubt there's anything i could get to represent her that wouldn't be just as tacky

    Help!!!!

    Thanks.

I think you've answered your own question there, really.

If you want a tattoo-free arm, you're either going to have to persevere with laser treatment as far as it goes or, at the very least, be resigned to using concealer daily.

I'm guessing that the removal treatment is being conducted by a cosmetic surgery place. If you're really serious about removal, it mightn't be a bad idea (though an expensive one) to arrange a private appointment with a dermatologist through your GP, and get the best expert advice possible on how best to deal with the remaining tattoo.

I'd generally be in favour of covering up a bad tattoo with a great one where possible, but it doesn't sound like you want that.

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes i would love not to have a tattoo on my arm but as i said if the removal is going no further i dont really see any other option than a cover up ... what on my arm now is a blob so it cant stay like that. To be honest if i could think of / find a nice tattoo to cover it up with i'd give it serious consideration ... the problem is i cant think of a tattoo that would look nice on the upper arm of a female

The laser is very expensive and when i started it i thought the tattoo would be gone or nearly gone by now so instead of facing another 12 sessions i am exploring my options :)

Thanks for the advice on the dermo specialist ... that's something i hadn't though of :)

How old was the tattoo when you started the treatments? Becuase full removal times depends on how old the tattoo is, the colour and the quality of the tattoo. It looking like a blob on your arm is really not a good sign, especially after 12 sessions. But honestly when you get to that late in the removal stage, it can be hard to see the difference straight away but it would become clearer over the 3-6 week healing period.
If you arent happy with what's been done so far your best bet is to look into alternatives. For a cover up though remember what you choose needs to be bigger and darker then what you already have so if you dont really want it, contacting a dermatologist like cavehill suggested or finding an alternative place for the laser treatments
