Looking into building my skills from September on and was wondering does anyone know how you would go about doing a part time apprenticeship in mechanics or similar.
Being 24 the bills wont allow a full time apprenticeship so even if i did find someone to take me on anyone have an ideas of what the days hours would be like?
    Any advice would be appreciated

It's my understanding that all apprenticeships and not just those connected to the motor trade are full time - I've never heard of a part time apprentice.

Looked into this myself (being 29) and there was nothing I could find!

Full time is the only way for an apprenticeship. Only way part time aside from night courses (most if not all are fairly sh1t) would be working in a garage on Saturdays or something, not really an option really.

just got this off the fas site:

    Effective: 01 May 2008
    Year Gross Wage Norm
    Phase 2 €195.25
    Phase 4 €293.17
    Phase 6 €439.75
    4th Year €527.70

these accurate or has it gone down with all the levies?

EDIT: i know these are full time rates and mite be able to stick it out for a year it is

they have went down a little since then but they are the wages you get paid while you are on block release at college. you would probably be getting paid less in work, I was only getting 172 in first year and 260 in second year

Out of interest how many garages did you approach yourself when you were looking for an apprenticeship back in the day?

off the top of the head 12 also this would have been back in 2005, neither garages nor fas got back to me, so thought myself over the last few years enough to keep me going.
