Trailfinders have told us that we need to have evidence of an onward flight in order to qualify for the 30 day visa when flying into Bangkok. Is this accurate?

I havent read this anywhere else (and i have looked!) so just wanted to check the accuracy of this. This could be a problem for us as we're planning to exit by train to Malaysia.

Sorry to ask, I know Visa questions, particularly Thai ones can get a bit annoying!!

Not sure for definite but I've seen that written here quite a few times by people who know Thailand well.

    Q. I plan to visit other countries around Thailand and I plan to be in Thailand for less than 30 days. However my airline ticket shows more than 30 days in Thailand. Do I need to apply for a visa
....A. Yes. If your airline ticket shows more than 30 days you must apply for a visa before entering Thailand even if you plan to obtain an airline or rail ticket to a third country upon arrival in Thailand.

That's from the website of the Thai Consulate here. Seems pretty clear.

That said, I've entered Thailand dozens of times and never been asked about my onward travel plans. Trouble is, you'd be f****d if they turned you away.

Bottom line: either apply for a visa or book an onward flight.

Yeah, you might get lucky but its better to ask for a visa.
If you have a malaysian visa that becomes valid within 30 days of your arrival in Bangkok, that may be acceptable proof of onward travel.

I think if you look at the entry requirements for almost every country in the world they'll require that you have an onward ticket and sufficient funds and all that jazz.

In my experience, the only countries that have actually enforced it were the Philippines and New Zealand, the Thai guys just gave us a smile as we flew in, lovely people
