Saw eight of these last week within a hour. Was working beside the beach and took these photo's on the phone, wish I had had my SLR handy

This was posted in our local news paper today:-

Brad Santos from the Bureau of Meteorology said they had also received reports of the water spouts occuring near Bunbury.

“This season there has been a lot of warm water in the South West corner of WA, which is associated with strong La Nina conditions,” he said.

“The warm water combined with a cold front to create an unstable atmosphere, which led to the water spouts.”

He said they had to reach the ground before they could be classified as water spouts.

“Otherwise they are known as funnel clouds.

“We have seen photos of two spouts which touched the water.

“They are reasonably rare, however it is possible we could see more this year.”
