can gas be specific to any gun?

i bought a p99 off a boardsie here a while back and he supplied a half full can of green gas with it.. i read online somewhere that maruzen p99s are very picky about which gas to accept, the slide on mine wont blowback fully on green gas.. i read they really work best with 134a. does anyone know if this is the case? even with other pistols?
if so have i done any damage to the magazine using incorrect gas?
    thanks :)

Its more got to do with the power the gas provides. Green gas is stronger than 134a gas. There should be no damage done to the magazine by using a different gas. What may happen is that the pistol itself would break from too much power being supplied but it probably wouldn't be instantaneous but over time.

If the slide is not blowing back fully you may want to apply some silicon oil to the slide of the gun so that there is less friction when it does blow back.

yeah ive lubed it up and had a good look around but it all looks good. think i just have to get me hands on some 134a gas now to try it.. strange thing is it just sorta got worse and worse as i used that gas.. but oddly enough it blows back fine when the mag is near empty and freezing cold! .. making me wonder about the power supplied by a nearly empty mag of Green gas compared to 134a..

still haven't got round to buying 134a .. tempted to offload the p99 on here for a different pistol.. can anyone provide more details/experience with this guns problem?
and who would be best to see for repairs if they're needed?

I have no experience with the pistol but putting both your post and the poster above you together, it would more sense that it may work better with 134a. he said it is weaker and you're saying it is firing better when half empty and cold so the green gas would be less effecient and may be more like 134a.

my opinion again like i said no experience but just noticed that

just noticed this lil tin earlier. http://www.seairsoft.net/product_details.php?id=160&sub=10&subcat=Gas
get that and save on buyin a full tin when its barely needed..
the only other thing i noticed on my p99 is the hammer inside it striking the release valve quite weakly. although i dont have a clue how hard it should be striking it ;-/

If its not blowing back fully on green, 134 may not do it, but it may also be less than a half full can of green too... lower pressure... weak.

Maruzen guns can handle green, thats for sure, the NBB p99 eats green gas, the gbb, can handle it in ones ive seen.

Gas CAN be specific, but a lot of 'recomendations' we see from japan, are based on output fps, at that temperature... which, in Ireland, lets be fair... its a lot colder... 1j in japan, is a lower gas pressure than in Ireland. Take note of that.

The whole 'only ever use 134a in tm guns' deal is a crock of poopy... here, green gets them to just under 1j, and they dont break...

I've run green in a maruzen gbb pistol for 2 years... thing wont die.

hmm come to think of it the green i have is quite low on gas.. used it in a WE 1911 and it was grand. think i'll just perform the old gas tests and hope that solves it... hope the info i get can be useful here too.
    thanks all :)
