So I'm going on holidays next week (yey :D)

Ive planned it all; driving to Slovakia from Dublin via ferry to France, there is one thing I'm not sure of though. When entering the Czech Republic, are you required to pay an entry tax? I can't find any info about it, and I can't remember where i heard this from.

    Thanks

are you required to pay an entry tax?
    no you're not!

there is a sticker needed for the car for using the motorways though. Maybe thats whats confusing you?
You'll also need another toll sticker if you goto Austria or Hungary and maybe Slovakia and want to use their motorways. Its not dear, 5 or something euro for 7 or 10 days depending in the country.

Germany/ Belgium/ Netherlands on the other hand is complety free at the moment.

Look up the AA and they'll have the details for the various countries.

    Thanks for the advice.

Yep, 250K (€10) for 10 days in Czech, not too bad. Slovakia is harder to find though.

Is it true you are required to bring a first aid kit too?

Yes. Starting in France. Also reflective warning triangle and high-visibility jacket. Spare set of bulbs, too.

Nothing much wrong with any of that. I have them in the car all the time, even though it spends only about 10 days a year on the continong.

add fire extinguisher and a hi viz jacket for all passengers in the car to that list.
you need a motorway pass alright in slovakia. And the cops can be tough too...

Also you need all the original vehicle documents and original certificate of insurance and driving licence.

    another tip

petrol is for buttons in Luxembourg, according to ARAL (aka BP) 133 / L
http://www.aral.de/toolserver/retaileurope/currentPrice.do?categoryId=4001412&contentId=58694 compared to 160ish in Germany
so you'd be as well route yourself via there and fill her to the gills.
On a 50L tank thats 13.50 saved, or 27 Euro if you do the same on the way back.

As a german taxpayer I'd prefer if you paid for the irish bailout use of the german roads by filling up in Germany on the way through, but theres enough fuppers in germany dodging taxes so im sure the 27 Euro wont be missed by Angie!!

Another thing to keep in mind is that the rules of the road will differ slightly between countries. In general, all of Europe drives on the right and yields to the right. But speed limits vary, road signs will be different, some countries will allow a right turn on red under certain circumstances. It will help you a lot if you familiarize yourself with the biggest differences before you set out.
