Refund phone credit?

    So here it goes,

My gf bought €20 credit for 3 in a Dunnes Stores the other day. When she got home and looked at the receipt with the code on it, it was apparent that she had in fact been given credit for e-mobile. We went back to the shop yesterday, where we pleaded our case, but were told by the manager that they no longer issue returns or refunds for credit (regardless of the fact the "this does not affect your statutory rights" is plastered all over the receipt). Apparently the mobile companies do not give them the money back. Plus there are notices up in the shop saying they no longer issue refunds for credit since May 1st.

Is there any way to get the money back? I think she's going to try an e-mobile shop today, is it likely that they'll be co-operative? Is there any other way to get the money back, as we both know nobody on the e-mobile network, so cannot even sell it on to a friend.

This is a hot potato for all shops.

Scummers do this all the time and then they copy down the number and try to get a refund. Because of this, all/most shops refuse to take them back.

There is a refund procedure, but the some of the phone companies dont care and eventually the retailer still gets stung.

Your EASIEST way is to pass it onto to someone who can use it. You could try and see the store manager on this, maybe he may take it back, but he will only follow company policy. It will be cumbersome and may take some time.

Thanks for the response. The store manager wasn't forthcoming with any refund. Do you know what the refund procedure is? Contact e-mobile?

I worked in Customer Care for one the mobile company's about a year ago. Then it was possible to cancel an unused voucher, and a reference number issued to the store to say it was cancelled and so they wouldnt get charged. Im assuming e-mobile must have a similar set up in place. (although someone from the store that sold it would have to ring which they dont seem to want to do)

Scratch card system would be much simpler

And much more expensive. Can't see it happening.

I know it's easy to say, but the printed voucher should have been checked before leaving the counter.

The OP could try contacting e-mobile and see what they recommend, as they can quickly check if the voucher has been used or not.

Tesco's do refunds on call credit but the thing is when you buy the call credit the also issue you with a receipt there is a barcode on the receipt that can be scaned if you got the wrong credit and thats it. If the number was used it would not leave you do the refund .

It is possible, but I caught one of the phone companies acting the bollix, so now I dont do them end of story.

You ring up to cancel it and they tell you they will put it in for credit. Then I ask is it credited and the reply is "I will put it in for credit". NOT its credited. In the mean time scummer uses code, phone company cops its now used and shop gets caught.

I know its hard on the OP, but its the way we have to do it.

Best option is to find someone with an Emobile, or go back and politely ask the manager to put it in for credit. If it was me, I may help you, but I would insist on seeing my credit come through first, and that could take weeks.

Used to ask customers twice to make sure - and even say "there 20e" 087 or whatever as I hand it to them so I'd be able to tell them to F Off if they came back.

The hassle to ring them up and give the phone company the other code on the receipt for them to check is a killer. I remember some arsehole claimed the credit wasn't working and I rang the company and 10 minutes later I evbentually got an answer that the credit had been used and then the guy just went "ok" and left.

    Thieving swine.

The solution we've gone to is a nice lady from the local shop took if in, along with my gf's phone number, and if anyone comes in looking for emobile credit, she'll use the voucher my gf gave her, then ring her up and throw her the €20. Pretty sound in all honesty. Sure we may never hear from her again, but we're not going to get the money back from Dunnes or emobile.

Thats true - in fairness - I think we generally said meteor - o2 etc

Although in saying that - I think the ported number thing was naturally slightly less of an issue a few years back
