Forged tax disc

Hi guys and girls, need some advice.

Friend of mine was caught a few weeks ago with a forged tax disc for the car, he had a few loans to pay and pretty broke, so in thinking it was smart, he forged his tax disc, was caught, got charged and had the car taken off him.

He was charged with having no tax and fraud for having faked the disc.Which he admitted to and said sorry.

He got the money together ( one of his friends helped ) and got his car out and got the car taxed. He is up in court next month on those charges.

Solicitor says he probably wont go to jail, but he is not sure.No real guidelines for that kinda of crime.Fraud charge is pretty serious so he is very worried.

Solicitor thinks it will be a big fine, could be thousands, but he is not sure.

Its his first offense, never been in any trouble before and is really worried he will go to jail.

Would they send him to jail?

    Thanks for any help.

Listen to Solicitor. Impossible to advise someone in his position without full instructions, knowing what judge will deal with him etc. Advice not permitted here anyway.

It's a revenue offence, same as driving a van with green diesel, expect a big fine. Jail very unlikely (the jails are full anyway) as it's only a car he was driving so annual tax a few hundred euros max. and he has paid the arrears.

    Big fine I'd say.
