Car battery warranties

Hi all, I bought a battery for my mate for a Toyota Levin about a year and eleven months ago and its failing already, it dosnt seem to take charge even when the car has taken a decent trip. Now fair enough the weather over the winter could have takin its toll on it since the car was parked up for a while and has only been put back on the road since January.

My question is would the motor factor i bought it from swap it or something? I have no idea about the warranty. Is there standard warranties for car battaries or is it just up to the motor factors? I paid €65 for the battery so its a fairly decent one id imagine.

    Thanks for any feedback.

Some are a year, some two, some three. Two year is common, ring the factors and ask how long their battery warranty is.

    Cheers for your reply RoverJames.

Rang them today and told them what i said above. The person on the phone was helpful. He said i should be still in warranty and to bring the battery up to him and he will test it over night and give me a replacement or spare battery in the mean time so they wont be leaving me stuck over night :) seems to be a good service so far anyway.

Ill update later when i go out to them.

You also need to be certain that there is nothing in the car that is draining the battery , radio wired up incorrectly, alarm issue etc and also that nothing you are doing is puttng strain on the battery like sitting with sidelights or radio on without the engine running etc.

The radio seems fine, it wont work unless the ignition is on and it would be rarely on with out the engine running. There is no alarm fitted so i doubt there is something draining it. Its gone so bad at the moment that if you park the car up for the night and go to start it the next morning you would have to use a jump pack. Is there anyway of ruling out the alternator? Just to be sure. I wouldnt really have a meter to hand to check.

    Thanks for your reply.

EDIT: Actually if you park up for 30mins or so it needs to be jumped.

Pity the motor factors can't load test it for you on the spot.

Just to update, i brought the battery out to them and they load tested it there and then. it was screwed, it was swelling and there was a small bit of acid leaking. he tried to make out that it got a surge of power or something and it was my fault rather than the battery. It was still in warranty but only by a month, but still, it had warranty! So he said we can send it off to the the crowed that made it and leave me without a battery for god knows how long or he said he would go half way on the price and sold me a battery for €28.

So result? i don't think so, i think he ripped me off because he knew i needed a battery asap and took advantage on that.

So he made €28 off me for a new battery which probably cost him just that and im sure he will make money of loads of old batteries he disposes of for other customer. Personally I think I was skanked.

    Any opinions?

Well, he's probably still going to send the battery back under warranty and get it replaced. If he does, you should get your €28 back.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.
