The paint job on my white Peugeot 406 has a few small scratches and doesn't look as white and clean as it used. How much would it cost just to put a fresh coat of white on it to make it look new again? Would one simple coat be enough or would it have to be fully sanded down as if starting from scratch?

I'd spend a day with a claybar, decent polish and a wax before I'd consider a respray.

I was gonna do the same myself with a van I have. had the number of a Polish car sprayer that would do a re-paint job for 500 euro inclusive of materials. Told my mechanic and he said I was mad. All i needed to do was to a get cutting paste or clay from auto shop. Go at it with an orbital buffer pad for cleaning. He said it would take all the little scrathes, gritting and faded discolouration away. Recommended a good waxing and buffing after and it would look like it came off the showroom floor. I'm taking his advice.

I would certainly go with a clay/paint clean/polish and wax before even considering a respray. Another good product is Iron Cut. They sell everything you need on www.detailer.ie

    Clay Bar Kit

    Polish

    Wax

    You may also need/want IronX

You'll be surprised with what you can achieve on your own with this stuff!

It contains lubricants that let the clay slide properly and helps get the ingrained dirt out. Water may work, but not as well.

i use water and some car shampoo in a spray bottle. it might be worth taking the car to a good detailer to see if they could restore the paintwork if you dont feel comfrortable doing it yourself

You can get Bilt Hamber clay. It's designed for use with water as a lube. Comes in 200g bars too. Can do a car with 50-100g depending on how bad it is.

wanted my old skoda repainted 2 years ago, and I was told it would be in a region of 2000+ with sanding and everything. prices might have come down a bit since then thought

    I would agree aswell.
I clay my car every year and use good polish atleast once a month and most couldant belive the car was a 93. due to a very minor incedent in dec 09 i ended up geting the car a compleate respray and it was €850 @ mate rate. bare in mind my car is just over 16ft long

if u lack the confadance urself read up on claying and proper use of compound as it can rune paint if not done right. or just get a pro to do it for you

Yup if u mean the respray, now it wasant a bare metal, glass out and doorjam/engine bay job.but i was very happy with the result bar a minor amount of contamanation.

Car was redone in the same color and had 3 minor bits of damage repared aswell
As said it was at a mate rate and i felt it was a good job for the price payed
