I finish my last exam of my course in 2 weeks.. My college has already started giving out letters requested by students to state that their course is completed in 2 weeks in order to claim for social benefits.

Problem is a few peoples letters were NOT STAMPED by the college secretary including my own. I went up to enquire about this and got some mumbled half answer. would there be any reason why they havnt stamped mine?

or is it not a big deal that its not stamped seeing as they were signed and dated and stuff with a picture of the college and a contact number on the letter ????

There shouldn't really be. It could be an oversight on their behalf or just may not be necessary. Go to social welfare with it anyway If its necessary you can then go back and get it stamped.

Lucky you, I left Dundalk last year and they took from August until November to even send me a letter....unstamped.

Once you have a letter from your college on headed paper, signed and dated, you will not have a problem. In order to get "student credits" you will need to work for one week after your course finishes. Then send in your paperwork to your local Social Protection [Welfare] office who will fax it to the relevant section to get your credits updated. A P45 will suffice for proof of work, or an employer statement. The credits could be very important should you sign on or make a claim after your course. You do not need to work before the course starts [even though it says that you do in the literature], and the Leaving Cert is considered a course, so potentially every student can avail of these credits. You can only avail of these credits once and you must be under 23 yrs when you start the course.

Oh wait hold on i never heard anything about this ?

I havnt got 1 weeks work experience after my course as im just finishing up now but i did 1 weeks work experience with no pay before

I dont have a P45 but if i could prove that i have done the weeks work experience would that evidence be sufficient enough or does it have to be a P45 ???

And what are "student credits" is it just extra money added to your JSA or ???

In order to get "student credits" you have to pay an "A" contribution after your course finishes. All you have to earn is 40 Euro, which could be achieved with one days work. You don't need a P45 as proof, as an employer statement will do. Student credits will help you get benefits such as JS, dental, optical, pension etc. You can potentially get 155 credits if you get your "A" contribution in the last week of the year. Or, if you did not do a course you can still get "Pre Entry Credits", which are the same as student credits. You just need proof of the date you first worked.
