Advice - replacing a Ford Fiesta

    Hi all,

I'm not very knowledgeable about cars so I thought I should look for advice when I'm thinking about replacing my own!

I currently have a 2005 Ford Fiesta -it's done me well and there's nothing wrong with it but it's time to replace it.

So, here's my dilemma, do I just go with the newer model of the Fiesta or is there something else out there that I should be looking at? I know the VW Polo is in the same class as the Fiesta (I think?!) - what other reliable cars are?

    Thanks!

Depends what you want? Do you want something faster? more power? more electrics? air con?

What model is the one you've got at the moment? 1.2 zetec?

There are lots of cars in this class to choose from. Clio, Yaris, Fiesta, Corsa, Polo, Grande Punto, Swift, Fabia, i20, etc all come to mind. Really depends on what you want from a car and how much you are willing to spend. I'd suggest before making any decision that you go test drive the various models and see which one you like the most.

To me the Polo is the only real competitor to the fiesta. Most of the others are a little long in the tooth. The fiesta has a better spec and for the most part engines are better too. The only thing that annoyed me about the fiesta was the metal back to the rear seats. Just looks cheap. It feels like a focus car otherwise just slightly downsized.

    Thanks for the replies.

Slinky, the model I have is a Steel II 1.2 - electric front windows, sunroof etc.
If I'm honest, there's not a huge amount about the car that I'd like to change - I'm only changing it because it's getting on in years and in a year or two, it wouldnt be worth more than a grand or two.

    I have about E7,000 to spend + trade-in.

EPM, it really has come down to the Polo V Fiesta - I've test driven a Polo - was expecting more from it since everyone raves about VW - I thought it didnt feel as solid as my Fiesta but the steering was lovely and light on it.

That's my problem - I think there must be more to choosing than my own little observations.

So, pros and cons for Polo Vs Fiesta I think?!

Would you not want soemthing a little more powerful? Like a 1.4-1.6? My girlfriend loves her 1.2 ibiza but after driving some of my cars shes gaging for a little bit more bite.

I would consider the newer Ibiza's too. They're great cars. Basically a VW/Audi underneath.

i think go for another fiesta, they're reliable, good space and the best car to drive by a long way.
