I'm planning to get the train to from Dublin to Westport, but it looks like there are only 4 trains a day. Is there much chance of the one I want being sold out? I was planning to just buy the ticket at the station on the day (a Saturday if it makes a difference), but considering buying ahead of time if they tend to sell out. Also is there any difference in price when buying tickets online vs at the station?

    Thanks for any advice :)

Go online and check out prices in advance. Online purchasing is geared towards saving on buying at the station. Plus, you may get a better deal. I know they do €10 tickets from time to time but it may not be at weekends/busy times.

I think you will have no problems getting a seat on the train as colleges are winding up etc.

Make sure you bring a packed lunch as Rail Gourmet prices are steep! €1.30 for a Mars bar.

Trains West can be rather crowded on Fridays and some Thursday nightd. \Ptherwise usually OK

Service has much improved over the years.

    Thanks guys!

Doesn't look like there are any 10euro tickets, they're all ~25euro. In that case is it still cheaper to book online or is that about the same price as what they charge in the station anyway? I'm just reluctant to book ahead incase I'm running late or something and miss the train and can't get my money back!

 And that was just one way!? And I thought Dublin bus was bad :p

I managed to get through to a human on the phone (hate those automated recordings!) and she said the price online would be the same as at the station, so think I'll just take my chances there on the day.

    Thanks again guys!
