Student Finance Conundrum!

I plan on starting a PGCE in England in September. I have just received a EU student finance application form in the post. It states on it that I had to be living in the EU for the 3 years before the start of the PGCE. However I was in Thailand up until last year. This will surely mean that I can't get any financial help for the year.

I am contemplating not stating that I was abroad during these 3 years. Would this work? Would Student Finance find out that I was abroad through the University?

Have any of you guys been in a similar position?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

It's highly unlikely they'd find out from the university but they may ask you for proof that you've been in the EU (bills, bank statements etc.). They may also just take your word for it.
