hi i got 2 iphones from a friend the other day he told me both of them were locked to vodafone, so i got a sim from them and put it in 1 and got it working
but when i tried the other it would not work
so i used f0recast to check out if it needs/can jailbroken or unlocked
but to my surprise it came up with no baseband but showed firmware 4.3.3
can any 1 tell me if i can do anything with it

The version of f0recast probably has not been updated to handle 4.3.3, it sounds to me like the phone if now locked and not unlockable unless done by vodafone.

i thought that myself but when i mentioned baseband in the vodafone shop
he said nothing to do with them (could not be bothered even looking)
only thing left to do is try Apple
anyway thanks for answering and your input
if i find out what caused this & "if" or how it was repaired ill let you know as it may help some 1 else

Baseband only applies to carrier locked iPhones. Mine has no baseband ie unlocked by apple where my wife's has a baseband 1.59.00 locked to vf. Connect the phone to iTunes put your sim card in the iPhone and see do you get an error this sim is not supported if so it's lock to a network if not the phone should start up and be visible in iTunes

ahh i see now, so it could be locked to a "uk" service or "usa" as i tried 085, 086, 087 also tried itunes and would not let me allow any of them

so maybe 1 of them grevey sims might do or if i get an at&t sim i may be able to unlock
thanks to both of you for answering:)

Don't know about that now... The baseband is the modem firmware. Only some versions are unlockable.

Every iPhone has a baseband. There is different basebands for different networks whether they operate off gsm or CDMA.

Try do a restore on the phone and put the vodafone sim in to activate then

if there was no baseband ya couldnt make or receive calls texts or anything to do with a sim card, its the software that makes it work

i never got to make a call as all i tried to do was make the phone work
even when i jail broke it, all the apps came up, but when i went to check carrier, network ect.. it does not exist on the fone!! also wifi is there but "greyed" blocked out
then itunes let me restore or factory restore up to latest software but still no baseband
even after that it still wont take a sim or allow to connect to itunes
allowed me to connect to itunes "only" because it was jailbroken

now even though i jailbroke it and reset it back
if i send it to apple will they know it was jailbroke and restored?

no once ya restore it, everything is wiped off it
after restoring it did ya try turn it on without a sim and see if the wifi is still greyed out

i'm not sure but if the phone was blocked by an insurance claim it might disable the gsm radio

when i restored it all i get is the icon to connect to itunes (wont let me see the apps) and wont let me connect to itunes without the sim, kind of a catch 22 situation lol

€100 to get fixed in shop in town i got quoted  (inc network unlock)
but ill try apple first, if it does come back as an insurance scam
the chap (friend) who sold it to me is fecked
but he is not that type of person
