Why is the tax system so stupid

    Just wondering can anyone offer valid reason for this, it seems cracked to me.
    You take out a mortgage, you get tax relief for the first 2 years @ 25%. But here's the kicker, it's not 2 years, its one year plus what ever months remain in the current calender year, from when you take out the mortgage.
    Maybe back in the day when it was all hand calculations this would be easier, but we have things called computers nowadays and there very good at working out calculations like this all by their own.
