    Hi all,

Just been reading the threads on here for the past hour. Its great to see such good advice been given out.

My story is I am part qualified accountant - lost my job last week. I will be actively looking for work. I went to local SW office today. I have to have a meeting next week to assess my application. Can anyone please advise what is the likely outcome for my situation. I am unsure the difference between the various SW benefits.

    The story is

1)full time employment last three years - part time before that ( when in college)

    2) No savings

    3) recently moved into girlfirends house. She works fulltime on about 36K per year

    4) I am over 25

Will I be entitled to full benefit?

I will move back home into parents if it will change the benefit entitlements

    Thanks a mil in advance

    Hi,

If you have 39 paid PRSI contributions in the relevant tax year then their should be no problem with your application for Jobseekers Benefit as this payment is based on your stamps. Full Benefit is based on how much you have earned if you have been earning rougly €300 or more then you would be entitled to a Full Rate of €188. Depending on you contributions you will either get benefit for 9 or 12 months, then after this you could apply for Jobseekers Allowance.

But in regards to Jobseekers Benefit, if you have been paying a Class S stamp and working for yourself then you will not qualify for this payment.

You could then apply for Jobseekers allowance instead, but as this is a means tested payment you will be means tested on your girlfriends wages as you would be classed as a co-habitant couple. There is certain disregards that apply for the means test but as you say she earns around €36k more than likley your means would be classed as to high to receive an payment.

Firstly, sorry to hear that you lost your job. Unfortunately, in the climate that we are in at present, this seems to be the norm!

Ok, you have worked for past 3 years so you would get the full Jobseekers Allowance. However, it will take approximately 9 weeks before you get it! However, you can visit your Health Centre in the interim to receive a certain subsidy until your claim comes through.

Before you consider moving back in with your folks you really must consider whether or not your folks are on SW or if they are receiving a pension as that would affect your claim.

If you are living with your girlfriend and renting then you will qualify for a rent allowance subsidy but honestly I wouldnt say you were living with her as girlfriend I would say you were renting with each other !! I know it sounds bad but you really wont get what you are entitled to if you are far too honest!! Unfortunately this is where we are at in this country at the moment !! The SW will also make sure that you register with FAS so its probably better that you do that sooner rather than later. Hopefully you wont be too long on the dole and that a job comes up for you.

He will get the full dole Jimbob but if just say for argument sake he is on it long term and his folks are on it also you wouldnt want anything to affect them !! You dont have to collect in the Health Centre but if he is living with the girlfriend he possibly wont have money each week so may have to so at least he will know that the option is there !!!

You will get only what you are entitled to if you are honest. If you have to be dishonest, then you are looking for more than you are entitled to. That would also be fraud.

Don't confuse what you want, with what you are entitled to.

    Hi Nom IZz,

I will repost my first reply to your post below, and add in a few things to try make it clearer for you as you are now probaly so confused from all the other posts.

(You need at least 104 paid contributions since you first started work)This would be about 2years of contributions, but as you said you have been working for 3 years, then you should have more than the above and have 39 paid or credited in the relevant tax year then their should be no problem with your application for Jobseekers Benefit as this payment is based on your stamps. Full Benefit is based on how much you have earned if you have been earning rougly €300 or more then you would be entitled to a Full Rate Benefit of €188.

Depending on you contributions you will either get benefit for 9 or 12 months, then after this payment is coming to an end you could apply for Jobseekers Allowance. (Jobseekers Allowance is a means tested payment)

There is certain disregards that apply for the means test but as you say your girl friend earns around €36k, so more than likley your means would be classed as to high to receive an payment.

If you where to move home instead of living with your girlfriend, you still need the above contributions to qualify for the Jobseekers Benefit. When the Benefit payment is coming to an end and you do apply for Jobseekers Allowance, this means tested payment will depend on what you situation at the time will be. But as you are 25, you will not be assessd on your parents payment, of course that is if you live with them.

Once over 21 you will entitled to nearly 200euro dole. and may recieve rent allowance. But seeing as you have been working for the past three years for the first 12months or so of umemployment you will be entiltled to more
